It’s Inevitable – Negativity and Disappointment
We’ve all had days, where it feels like the weight of negative thoughts, regret, or disappointment, are crushing us – it’s simply part of being human! Knowing that its “normal” doesn’t always help when struggling to find the light at the end of the tunnel. In truth, good and bad emotions are relative. Hiding from our feelings can keep us stuck in negativity longer than necessary. It’s not always easy to find the positive in tough situations but there is always hope for a better tomorrow.
When you feel dragged down by the negativity of your mind, there are some simple steps you can take to turn the tides to more positive thinking. Below are 10 tips that can be very useful in breaking negative thought patterns and finding the path back to your inner joy:
- Acknowledge the feeling instead of fighting it
All of your emotions are valid for you in each moment – even the challenging ones. Allow yourself to feel the emotion in order to release it and move forward. - Start a gratitude journal
Gratitude is a powerful tool for manifestation and mindfulness. When caught up in negative thought patterns, start writing down a list of things that are “good” to start shifting your energy. - Harness the power of your emotion
Take the intensity of the emotion you are feeling and convert it into creative energy! Run, draw, write, or dance to harness the power of your feelings and create beauty from the darkness. - Focus on your strengths and talents
We are all born with innate gifts and strengths that carry us through the darkest days. When you are feeling down, it can be helpful to remind yourself of how very far you have already come. - Reframe your negative thought patterns
Negative thoughts can be a vicious cycle, and training our mind to stop them in their tracks is helpful to break the pattern. For every negative thought, stop and reframe it into something positive. - Surround yourself with positivity
If negative, toxic people surround you; it is difficult not to get caught up in their energy. Choose your friends wisely, and make it a point to spend time with those who lift your spirit. - Reach out to the people who love you
We all need a support system – whether it comes from our family, our lover, or our friends. If you are struggling, reach out! There is nothing wrong with leaning on others in your time of need. - Support your physical body
When negativity looms over you, it is even more important to be sure to get extra rest, drink plenty of water, and eat well to nourish your body and soul. - Center yourself in the present moment
The only reality we have is the here and now, and living in the past or worrying about the future can cause unneeded stress and anxiety. Bring yourself back to the present moment and just breathe. - Remember – “this too shall pass.”
It may sound cliché, but life is ever changing, and brighter days are sure to come. Acknowledge your feelings, keep shining your light, and release your fears to the Universe.
In an often chaotic world, staying in a positive mindset can be a challenge for everyone. However, there is no light without the darkness. By allowing ourselves to feel emotion (both good and bad!), we can learn how to let go of the things that no longer serve us and transform negative thoughts into beautiful possibilities. Take control of your emotion and your energy. Learn how your energy contributes to what’s happening to you and around you. Gain control and learn how to make it work for you!
